CARRIER BATTLES 4 GUADALCANAL is a classic hex-and-counter wargame covering the naval-air battles during the Pacific War in 1942-1943

Review by Pocket Tactics
" Overall Carrier Battles 4 Guadalcanal is a solid WW2 naval wargame built around a great interface. It’s a realistic simulation that is accessible and fun, retaining depth while not letting the player get bogged down in menus or decisions. Fundamentally Carrier Battles succeeds because it takes the juicy technical attributes of naval games and mates it with a cracking user interface "

Stupid issue ,

One problem

I think we shouldn’t have to deal with In-app purchases here, it just feels greedy to have to pay to play Japan or play other scenarios

Developer Response ,

An interesting subject

You have to know that the firs version of the game, back in 2016, had only 5 scenarios
Then new features and a 6th scenarios came in
A lot of work and love has been thrown into new scenarios and features which are justifying the in-app, especially because they are totally optional to enjoy the game

However, after a while, the combined price of all in-app might be a too step for the new comers

We could increase the base price while pouring more stuff in the base version but it is difficult to increase it without daunting new players

They are reflexion about making a new app comparable to the PC/Mac version with a relative few number of in-apps or using a premium subscription which would unlock everything

To be continued

Excellent game with exceptions

Pretty good hex and counter. The major issue is with the AI and RNG, they (AI) always seem to land more bomb and torpedo hits on a human player regardless of cap. Not just that, human player attacks always seem to miss and only score 1 or 2 bomb hits, even with a large air group. And it also seems unfair to give the AI 50% extra victory points for sinking ships when you play the IJN while only giving us a flat 10 points when playing as the USN. That just seems like the game favours the AI more then the player.

Developer Response ,

Actually, the AI has the same chance to hit Thant the player.
It is true that victory conditions are a bit different, the AI being less able to manage this part of the game

Almost Excellent...!

I haven’t played all the scenarios yet nor all the add-ons like the Japanese side, but what I have played is pretty damn good.

There are a couple of things that could be improved like the instructions and tutorial, but they are still fairly good.

Some improvements are warranted like allowing players to ready aircraft after dark (why I can’t arm and fuel my aircraft for an early launch is a mistake). Also, I should be able to have transports and carriers in the same task force or a least be able to synchronize their speeds so the carrier can escort the transports.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your comment

You may start to ready aircraft in deck at dawn actually (04:00).

One could imagine a feature allowing a TF to escort another and move towards it on autopilot

What would you improve in the rules and tutorial ?
