HEALTH DATA

Collection of Health data such as calories burned and heart rate requires an Apple Watch or other Apple Health connected device.

BATTERY USE

Arc is only awake and using GPS when you are active and moving. For the rest of the day Arc stays in a low power sleep mode, with GPS turned off, to conserve battery.

On a typical day of two to three hours of travel a single full battery charge should last from morning to evening without requiring extra recharging during the day. However longer trips (for example a long hike or cross country drive) may consume more than expected battery, due to Arc needing to be awake and recording, with GPS activated, for the duration of the trip.

For longer trips, I recommend plugging your phone into a car charger or battery pack, to avoid unpleasant battery surprises.

Stark

Sehr starke App.

Developer Response ,

Hi!

Arc has had a subscription system for the past 4 years. The change in a recent update is to remove the free tier. The free tier is no longer financially viable due to new excessive expenses.

Previously the free tier was paid for by me. Arc does not collect or sell data, and as such its only revenue source is user subscriptions. Which meant that free users were not generating any revenue, but their expenses still needed to be paid, so it was me paying them. That is no longer possible, due to the new expenses.

Arc is not going to be discontinued. Arc offers Lifetime purchase options, which are priced on the basis of the app continuing to exist for at least the next 3 years. Beyond that, the app will continue to exist for as long as there exists a purpose for it, which I expect to be far longer than 3 more years.

The removal of the free tier has been done to ensure that Arc can continue to exist. So you should see this change as one that increases confidence in Arc's continued existence.

As to completely blocking access, if you wish to access your data without paying, you can start a free trial (all subscriptions come with 30 days free trial), then export your data, and cancel the trial before the end of the trial period.

With regards to competitors, I see the removal of Arc's free tier as a good thing for Arc's competitors - they will now be able to charge more for their own apps, thus funding more development. I look forward to seeing Arc's competitors improve in time due to this change.

As to the price being expensive, you personally have been using the app for almost 3 years, based on the date of your first App Store review. A Lifetime purchase would work out to 5.5 EUR per month for the months you have been using the app so far. If you continue to use the app for another 3 years, it would work out to 3.7 EUR per month. As you can see, the Lifetime purchase option is a very good deal.

Thank you for your understanding.

Matt
