When we want to hunker down and type without distraction, one of our favourite resources is iA Writer. Substantially updated since its initial release, this writing app offers a customisable keyboard, selective text highlighting, iCloud sync and many other features we’ve come to depend on. Plus, a streamlined interface lets you simply swipe left to preview a document and swipe right to access your library. The entire experience is designed to be quick and easy so you can focus on your work.
iA Writer ist der heimliche Star
Derzeit muss bzw. will ich wieder viel in HTML schreiben, was ich in der Regel über Markdown mache. Das Angebot an Markdown-Apps ist groß, aber iA Writer hat mich wirklich überzeugt. Die App ist schon seit Version 1 auf meinen Geräten, aber gerade die kontinuierlichen Updates haben die App über die Zeit wirklich(!) gut gemacht. Und das muss ich jetzt wirklich Hervorheben, denn andere Anbieter verlangen hohe Abo-Preise und bieten kaum Verbesserung. Die iA Writer wird aber laufend verbessert und fügt neue Features hinzu (für die auch als In-App-Purchase bezahlen würde). Mein Workflow mit iA Writer ist kurz: Ich schreibe bequem einen Text in MMD und schicke ihn dann über Select All -> Copy HTML zu Wordpress. Es gibt zwar einen direkten Export zu Wordpress. Ich kontrolliere und ergänze aber doch noch mal gerne den HTML-Code, bevor ich etwas veröffentliche. Dazu bietet iA Writer Unterstützung für Tabellen, Fußnoten, Bilder an und kann Inhaltsverzeichnisse einfügen. Da bleiben kaum Wünsche offen. Mein Fazit: HTML kann man manuell schreiben - und sich damit viel Arbeit machen - oder man schreibt es schnell und bequem über MMD in iA Writer.

Großartig, weil es eines richtig gut macht
Es gibt viele Apps, die alles Mögliche wollen. iA Writer erlaubt eines, nämlich fokussiert zu schreiben, sonst nichts. Das aber tut dies Programm außergewöhnlich gut. Der Trick besteht für mich in der Ausgabe mit entsprechenden Formatvorlagen. Auf dem iPad gelang mir das lange nicht. Nun weiß ich wie es geht, und das macht die App noch viel besser. Für mich ist das Schreiben der starke Punkt, aber das Manuskript dann formatiert weiter- oder auszugeben, ist ein Pluspunkt, den ich nicht mehr missen möchte.
Die Formatvorlagen lassen sich vom Hersteller herunterladen, und dann aus z.B. iCloud laden. Sie werden aber nur sichtbar, wenn man in der Voransicht sie einbindet, indem man auf das aAA Symbol klickt und eine entsprechende Ausgabe-Formatvorlagen zuweist. Ja, das steht beim Hersteller auf der Seite, aber ziemlich versteckt.
Die Schrift zum Schreiben, teils auch das Syntax-Highlighting sind überaus gut gewählt. So schreibt es sich gerne und lange.
Die App macht Freude.
