HP Smart 4+

Was going to return this item as kept telling me my WiFi password was not recognised. After ten hours I was at the end of the line, it was going back Monday morning. The wireless light was showing green, I had followed all the steps on the hp video, but no joy. Basically I couldn’t move forward in the app. The low and behold early hours of the morning. App prompt was telling me to put the ink in and away we go.
I am not a heavy home printer so the option to change the plan after the six months free ink is there if needed. So far I have printed a few letters. Print quality is acceptable and not too noticeable. Purchased from curry’s online, delivery was smooth and everything appears good. I do need to call to find out how my extended warranty works as not showing. Also would like to know why there is a £1.00 debit in my ac and a message that ink is on the was. I thought the ink in the box was a 6 month supply, considering I’ve only printed a few letters I shouldn’t need ink. Will call customer support to get verification of issues. That said currently happy with my purchase.

I don’t normally leave negative reviews, but I’ve struggled with my Smart Printer since buying it in January. The app on my phone connects fine when printing and scanning, but the minute I try to connect to buy new ink, it says the printer is offline (it clearly isn’t - the blue wifi light is on and I have full signal on my mobile too). So now I’m low on ink, but the service doesn’t recognise I’m low on ink because it says I’m not connected and therefore won’t send me any ink out. I’ve managed to input my payment details end set up a subscription. It just won’t recognise I’m low on ink. Very frustrating. I’ve also found the printer will suddenly stop midway through a large document print and it’s not straightforward reprinting from where you left off. You have to go into the print options from a different location, to then print your remainder of pages. I bought this printer for working from home during the pandemic on items I can’t do online. I’m finding I’m having to go into the office just to do printing, because this app and printer is so temperamental and just doesn’t always work. Also, very disappointed in the online assistance - it just sends me around in circles to articles I’ve already read.

I have had HP smart for a while now and although it works fine as far as connecting to my printer, it is very VERY basic. It may be a ‘free’ app but considering its a proprietary one for use with HP printers, it is far below the standard where it needs to be.
Printing multiple pages per sheet is impossible and I think that is a necessary feature, for environmental reasons as well as cost saving ones. I need to print long academic documents with photos and cannot justify the use of so much paper and ink that 1 page per sheet would use. As more and more professionals move to depend on iPads for work, these kind of features are an imperative! I also do not get a warning on my iPad if the print job pauses due to low ink or no paper, and for printing on WiFi that is a key requirement for me. I could be far from the printer, thinking the print job has gone ahead, but when I go to collect what should be a sizeable printed document a few minutes later, it hasn’t printed for one reason or other and I end up wasting time while I wait for it to print.
This may be a ‘home printing’ targeted app but this year has proven that working from home is normal and more common than ever. iOS apps need to be able to compete with the functionality offered by a basic laptop printer driver, and in comparison, this is pretty much useless.
