While there’s no shortage of charming 8-bit platformers on the App Store, HoPiKo simply raises the bar with its stunning quality. Mixing simple controls, just-difficult-enough levels and a killer score, this arcade game shimmers with retro quality. As you blast your way through stages littered with obstacles—bouncing between moving platforms and crashing into a big bad virus—you’ll be filled with both nostalgia and excitement.
The work of an evil genius
This is brilliant, maddening platforming, that requires the reflexes of a table tennis player, the precision of a surgeon and the patience of a nun. You flip your little sprite from exploding, flipping platforms with only fractions of seconds to spare while frantic chiptunes raise your already dangerously high pulse rate.
I reckon other reviewers have said it better, but this is a great mobile game: fast, easily consumed in small chunks whenever you get a spare minute or two, and superbly tailored for a touchscreen interface. You will die a lot, and screech the occasional obscenity, but it will keep pulling you back in for another go.
Final word: the latest update appears to have fixed some crashing issues I was having, so these guys are looking after their product, which is encouraging. Snap it up.
Incredible game for those who love a challenge
Love this game. Brilliant visuals and gameplay work perfectly with the soundtrack. Fans of super hexagon, alone, wave wave etc. will like this very much.
Much respect to the studio for continuing to release pay-once games as well.
