Editors’ Choice

A rare kind of triumph, Prune takes a simple idea—pruning trees—and shapes it into a creative, deeply playable puzzle game. The visuals echo the style of Japanese painting in striking fashion, and the beautiful music instills a contemplative tone as you swipe to trim the limbs of a rapidly growing tree and guide it around obstacles. There’s no frantic pace, no demanding skills to master—only a quietly bewitching and unforgettable experience.

More an art experience than a game - beautiful!

If you buy this purely as a game you will probably enjoy the logic of it for a little while, then get bored. However...
The point of this app is it's utterly beautiful simplicity. From it's deliberately minimalist instructions that encourage you to explore a stunningly stylish interface to the background sounds this is a piece of art.
In a world focused so often on the destination Prune provides an opportunity, for a while, just to enjoy the experience of taking part in a journey.
I found Prune quite spiritual with its tough but encouraging message about the effects (positive and negative) of our interactions with nature.
Throughout the story the landscape changes as human activity affects the world, making it harder for life to thrive. However, a key point of Prune is that we have the power to help that life in its search for the light it needs.
Its not an app I use every day or every week but I'm glad I have it and every so often enjoy rediscovering its uniqueness.

I love it.

Mutant plant butchery fun

In my opinion, this app isn’t more of an art experience than a game. It isn’t a zen like chill-out and it doesn't make the stresses and strains of the day melt away into a serene and beautiful melange of sounds and lights. Instead, this garden simulator requires its curator to butcher triffid like plants which grown at an unholy speed to guide them to the light so that their spores can propagate and one day, no doubt, their species can take over the planet and it will become a weed infested nightmare world of dendritic tentacles suffocating each other in a bitter and brutal race for light and survival. Plant sentience is likely just around the corner and after that there can be no doubt that the true purpose of their existence, the total elimination of the human race, will become apparent to the remaining miserable wretches who have not already killed themselves in despair. I love it.
