It’s beautiful but...
The developers have done a wonderful job designing this. There’s attention to detail and lots of the noise from other bible apps is removed, allowing you to focus on what matters.
However, it rarely receives updates. It still doesn't support multi tasking on iPad. This means taking notes while reading the bible is actually an inferior experience. This is a serious omission. The bible is not just a book to read, but also to apply to your life.
The translations are expensive. No other bible app I know of charges so much. Most bible apps are free, with all the translation free as well. Some require a small price. The impression this leaves is that the other bible apps just want to get the bible into as many hands as possible, and Neubible just wants to make money from it. Now I don’t believe that is actually true. I’ve been a supporter of this app from the very beginning when I read the article about it in fastcompany. Design has, for too long, been neglected when it comes to the bible. I think the developers have done such a wonderful job with the small resources they have, but I think it’s time they thought about how to expand this project.
Beautiful app, just needs more translations
I’ve never got on with Bible apps. The reading experience has never been delightful. So, if I read the Bible on my iPhone or iPad, I’ve just read the Bible using iBooks with a download of the version I want to read. This is the first app which I think will change that habit. It is beautiful and delightful reading experience that is free from clutter. The only slight technical issue I ran into was that while scrolling down was smooth as butter, scrolling up as a little juddery.
The only real downside to the app is that the available Bible translations are VERY limited. It quickly needs to add some of the major translations. I’m hoping the NIV(UK), NRSV, ESV, The Message, NLT, NKJV, and more will be made available soon. If I had to choose one it’d be the NIV (Anglicised version). Great work guys though. This is a fantastic start.
A pleasure to use
The developers have done an incredible job - with clever design, the app focuses on reading the word of god. Its fast, simple and it works. Due to my work, a physical bible is not always at hand, this app has become a daily companion in my own salvation journey.
I highly recommend it, worth every single penny.
