Flipboard ads are getting desperate

Flipboard has switched on full-screen ads that can pop up whenever they want, and often. I frequently have to dismiss the same ad several times a minute WHILE READING AN ARTICLE. It makes the app unusable. Looks like the aggregate news app business isn’t doing well. Pity, as it used to be one of the killer apps of iOS.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your feedback and we apologize for your experience. We try to serve relevant ads to our users. Even though there is no way to hide ads at this time, your feedback is valuable to us. For further feedback, Please select "Contact" at flip.it/help and we can further assist you.

An app that doesn’t understand itself

Flipboard is a content discovery app but it thinks it’s a news app.
Why is it the former and not the latter? In news apps you can see all the headlines as you scroll down the screen, then click on the ones that interest you. If it refreshes it’s either not a big deal because you can simply scroll back to where you’ve left off or actually welcome new feed.
In Flipboard you can only flip through one or two stories at a time at a leisurely clip. Sometimes you have to flip through dozens of stories without finding anything. You put the phone down for a minute and here Flipboard springs a nasty surprise - it refreshes the feed as if there was some breaking news story that you simply need to know. In reality it’s maybe two articles about cats or underwater chess. But now you need to flip through all the same stories page after page if you want to reach the content you haven’t done before. Why not let the user decide when to refresh? Why not make the app remember where we left off and take us back there? Why not insert the ‘breaking news’ stories at the next flip instead of forcing a complete refresh?

Swipe sensitivity

Generally a great aggregator app. One thing that really grinds my gears though…

Can some thing be done about how easily the app recognizes a slightly off vertical swipe (to scroll an article) as a horizontal swipe (forward or back)?

I don’t have this issue with any other app. It wouldn’t be such a problem if it were easy to go back to the article that I just “back-ed” away from. (Due to the constant updates even while I’m reading…. Which is generally a good thing, I suppose)

Developer Response ,

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback! We will share this with our team to make them aware of this usability block.

Thank you.
