Description

This app is for use in research studies examining how diet, exercise and sleep affect health and healing. Our body contains circadian (circa – approximately and dian – day) or 24 h clocks that determines the time to sleep, feel hungry or get ready for physical activity. Research studies run in different locations are trying to understand the interaction between “how much” and “when” we sleep, eat or exercise for better health. You need an activation code from these research studies to download and use the app.

Following are the key features:

- Camera function to snap picture of everything you eat or drink
- Sleep tab to record time to bed and time of waking up
- Exercise tab to log physical activity
- Personalized food menu
- Health tab to log and monitor health parameters
- Medication reminders
- Feedback with the research coordinator
- Integrated healthkit framework to track your health information.

Insufficient Functionality

Overall this app looks good and works smoothly. I like how easy it is to log your meals. I was curious to track my eating and sleeping habits and eager to contribute to the research. However, the app does not read my sleep data or fitness activities from Apple Health. I am unable to manually enter sleep data getting an error message that tells me to select my perceived sleep quality. But there is no option to do so. I am not going to use the app without an easy way to record sleep data (I am not willing to start my sleep tracking manually each night since my watch already tracks my sleep). Hopefully future updates will fix this issue.

Has Potential

I struggle to use this app. It's very slow and often freezes not allowing the camera feature or other logging features to work. Its slowness doesn't allow me to log my food in the moment. Overall taking pictures of my food has been the challenge because of the app crashing or not having an easy way to open the camera feature which works unreliably. More recently since the recent update, the app only allows me to log my food without taking a picture. After I save my food or beverage, the camera activates and I take a picture of my food that I just logged but it is not clear to me if the app is double logging my food or not or if this is the new way to log food in the recently updated app! Very frustrating. I will continue to use the app because I believe there is value in this study. I am a firm believer in healthy lifestyle choices and aim to fine tune my efforts to fast by using the feedback (although not accurate) logged here. I already eat quite healthy. I just want a record of my habits in one app. I know it's not 100% accurate, but for my needs at this time, this app seems to be the best choice. I hope the developers continue to improve the app. It has so much potential.

Improved But Still Has Problems

The app does well at tracking food and water intake. You can now add your weight and other health data. Before the update, I couldn’t add any health data. However when I add my weight in lbs it graphs the same number in kg, basically showing 2.2 times the recorded weight. I know that I put it in lbs cause it shows my weight in lbs in the window to add more “vitals” (“health data”)
The sleep function is ok but somewhat glitchy. If you use the sleep now button when you wake up and try to write comments there is no way to exit the comment box so you just have to cancel the entry and remember your start and end sleep times and enter it manually. Also the app before the update let you start sleep after a 5, 10, 15, or 30 minute delay which I found more accurate because it takes me at least 10 minutes to fall asleep.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback. We are working diligently to resolve the weight conversion issue and the sleep comment glitch. We really value your input and have added all your suggestions to our list of requested features. If you have more ideas or face any issues, please contact us through the app or email at circadian@mycircadianclock.org.
